The adventures begin at this age.

RECOMMENDATIONS

We are very pleased to be able to show you our recommendations pages, from happy owners who have written back to us with what they think to our breeding, how we rear pups.

Let them tell you not us just how we care for our pups!  After all these people have insights into our home.

It is always great when someone comes back for another pup telling us how wonderful their first one was.  I love to hear stories about our dogs, so always feel free to email me as we love to hear back from you.

KENNEL CLUB ACCREDITED BREEDER SCHEME

We are members of The Kennel Club accredited breeder scheme.

Being part of a scheme such as this we are required to have all our Weimaraners and Hungarian Vizsla's hip scored before breeding.  We are pleased to be associated with this scheme in which the Kennel club are trying to raise the standards of breeding in the UK.  Buying a kennel club registered puppy does not mean automatically that it is from a kennel club accredited breeder, you must ask each breeder if they are a member as not every breed joins the scheme.  Our dogs are currently being DNA profiled one by one.  All our dogs are micro chipped.  We send all puppies out micro chipped also.

KENNEL CLUB REGISTRATION

Your Kennel club registration will be handed to you when you pick up your puppy.  If this is not available because the KC has not sent the documentation in time, then we will post this onto you.  Generally they are very good and we always have paper work here.  We choose the pedigree name which is usually a theme. For example our last litter is named from "Star Trek" movie with names such as Silvestre Enterprise, Silvestre Warp Speed....

Judges On C List

Rachel is on the C list for:  The Weimaraner Association.
Northern Weimaraner
The Weimaraner club of Great Britain
The Large Musterlander club
GSP Club
The Hungarian Wire Haired Club.

Darryl is on the C list for: The Weimaraner Association
The Weimaraner Club of Great Britain.

Rachel has stewarded for open shows.  Also has run a companion show with a friend.

Okay this really you may say has nothing to do with puppies, and no in theory it does not. But it shows you that we understand the construction of a dog and being a judge there fore we have a standard in mind for the breed so when we breed we breed to a standard and know what makes a Weimaraner looks like a Weimaraner and a Vizsla looks like a Vizsla.

ENDORSEMENTS

All the Kennel club registration certificates will come to you with a breeding endorsement on it.  Unless dog is brought for breeding.   I place this on when I register the litter.   (R) Progeny not eligible for registration

At the time of sale we will get you to sign a statement to agree that you are in full knowledge that their is a breeding endorsement on the KC document.

We are often asked if this will be lifted?  The answer is no we do not, unless we know you and you are active with in the Weimaraner breed community such as showing, agility, working, health testing.  We do not put them on any certificate if the pup is going abroad.

We do not place export endorsements on the KC Reg. Cert.

MICRO-CHIPPING

I (Rachel) am fully qualified to micro chip dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets.

I have now done many breeds of dogs which is done in my grooming salon.  It is a clean environment to do this.

All our puppies are Micro-chipped at 6 weeks of age.

This is in the price of our puppies.  If you choose not to have your puppy micro chipped then we do not reduce the price of the puppy as this is a free service that we give to our puppies.

All the animals I micro-chip I register with Pet Log the leading Data Base in the UK for animals.  For more details just contact Rachel.

I also go and micro chip other breeders litters of puppies.

The government wishes that in the future all puppies are micro chipped before a breeder sells the puppy, we are already meeting this requirement.

HOME REARED PUPPIES

Every breeder rears a litter slightly different to each other.  This is how we do it.......

Our pups are born in the house, and reared in the house.  Because newborns and their mums need warmth, and regular feeding, and regular care we find it easier to have them in the house.  When they are being born they are in my kitchen as I have access to water, the kettle to make me cups of tea to keep me awake as most births are over night. I have my big chair and I curl up and nap beside mum. They are then moved to my dining room as I put a large plastic sheet down and a large puppy pen.   As they grow up they can then come out of their whelping box.  I have two large puppy pens, which I can join together, and I can put this on my patio during the day time.  They are safe and being outside my back door I can keep a regular check on them.   They have a huge area to run about in then.  I also provide all manor of toys, including chews, hide treats, chicken wings, pigs ears, anything to keep them amused.  The best thing to give pups in the heat of the summer is an ice block.   It keeps them cool, and they get water.  Our puppies are fed 4 times a day here and we always feed outside.  Every time a puppy eats, it then wants to go to the loo, so by us feeding outside they get used to going to the loo outside which helps with house training.  At night the pups come back into our house so they are safe and we can keep an eye on them again.  Mostly pups up to 6 weeks sleep evenings.  But as they get older they get so they want to be up for longer periods of time.  They need their new homes by the end of week 7 that is for sure.   In winter times however pups do not go outside until about 6 weeks when they can regulate their heat better and they can run around outside, other than that they are in the house.

For bedding I recommend veterinary bedding from Pro Fleece.  We also use duvets for our pups which they can climb up on and sleep.  But for their main bed it is pro fleece.

Part of good socializing puppies is interaction with all ages.  Our teenager children and their friends of all ages come through our home and are always encouraged to handle puppies.

Our gardens are quite large, and we have ducks, chickens, and we can walk our dogs in a paddock which is mown just for them.    We have 5 British short hair pedigree cats also which share our lives and they are fab at teaching puppies all about cats.

We give our puppies a lot of attention.  Which shows when they are 7 weeks as they are such good characters by then.  We are often told how confident our pups are.

We play a Fire work CD which is very helpful to teach puppies to accept loud noises.

Everyone that has had a puppy from us always says how confident our pups are, and how quickly they settle into their new homes.

When can we visit you?

Two photos of a puppy visit, Beau sitting with her pups and Jayne being licked to death.

Once the puppies are born we like to wait a few weeks until they look like puppies and can run around like puppies before we say come over.  This is usually around the time the pups are 5 weeks old.  You can bring your camera or video and spend some time with the pups, getting to know them and us.  Ask us anything you like.  It is a special time to share with your puppy. I am always asked how long can you visit.  Because we end up with several couples coming on the same day we al ot about one hour each.  Sometimes visits lap into hours.

We get many people contacting us just wanting to see our dogs, or in fact see our puppies that we have.  I have had to limit visits now due to the fact that I could see 20 people a week who have no intentions of having a puppy. But just fancy a day out looking at puppies.   We only allow people who have booked a puppy with us to visit and meet us. Only those people on our waiting list are we prepared to see.   We do not let just anyone new come and just see puppies, as we have a responsibility to our puppies, and our new owners.  They may have bonded with their puppy already by a visit or photos, and it does not seem right when they have put a deposit down on their puppy to let someone else come in and handle their dog.  The risk to the puppies health and welfare is paramount to us as a family and we do not want risks to our dogs with infectious diseases passed on or zoonosis.  It is for this reason alone we have only families who have reserved a puppy come and see their baby.  We always state that if someone has not visited us before hand and comes and meets us and then is not happy with us, or we with you then we return a deposit.

Our Adult dogs

Three of our dogs enjoying the log burner which is to the right. It was snowing hard outside.

It is important on our puppy page not just to talk about puppies, but care of the adult dogs here.  All our dogs are given the opportunity to show, do ring craft training. Not all enjoy it as it takes a lot to train a dog to perform.  Because its not something all dogs enjoy as some prefer to do what is natural and that means pleasing themselves or working ability.  So if our dogs hate it we retire them from showing. That does not mean they are not good specimens of the breed.  All our dogs are of a high standard in construction.  All having the correct scissor bite.

Our dogs are given lots of love and attention in the home with us.  We take them out all the while to the beach, woodlands, health lands.  They go on holidays with us and they enjoy a varied lifestyle.  We have kennels outside, but they are not kept in kennels all the time.  They much prefer to be inside the house with us.

Our dogs go to regular training.  Two have achieved their KC Bronze award in 2009.  We aim to do their silvers and we aim to do more bronze with other dogs.

Some of our dogs now enjoy gundog training.  I will be taking my dogs on the next shooting season to be shot over on a local shoot.

You only have to look through our many photo galleries to see just what our dogs get up too, and the lives they live, I think you will agree they look very happy dogs.  Their who body language shows happiness.

Support

When you join our group you join our family!
I know some breeders say they will support their puppy buyers but it is unfortunate that they do not carry through with this.  Because to me this is the part which I enjoy the most.  Great friendships have been made through our life long breeder support as each person becomes more of a friend than someone who brought a puppy.

We have a very good support network for anyone that takes a puppy from us.  Not only are we at the end of a telephone, text, mobile, or email.  We have a very popular chat group and this is a PRIVATE chat group for Silvestre members only.

This group will help you with training, dietary issues, behaviour, showing advice, working, agility advice.

Not only is it a chat group but its a photo group and we have tons of photos on this group which are never put onto our main website.

Each year we have an outing for our Silvestre Group.  We meet up and have a lovely day out with our dogs.

If you do not wish to be a part of this Silvestre Group, we completely understand, and you are given all our contact details and we generally check up on a couple of occasions that you are coping fine with your puppy, then we leave you alone.  We only have contact with those that wish it

Pedigree

Our puppies come from a pedigree of dogs with a long line of ancestors which are pedigree dogs.  We do not INBREED our dogs.
The term inbreeding means mating father to daughter, son to mother.  The Kennel club have now banned this practise and dogs that are bred in this way will not be registered.

Our dogs come from some of the top show or working dogs in England, Australia, Canada, America etc...

You will be given a 5 generation pedigree when you take your puppy home.

Health of parents

Although no breeder knows what the health of their dog will be in the future we can tell you that we only breed from dogs that are healthy at the time they are bred with.  They have to be hip scored from 12 months of age to check for hip dysplasia.  We have had hip scored some bitches as late as 3 and half years and still they have good hip scores.  HD is only one small part of the health problems of the UK Weimaraner, although because their are no genetic markers for other health problems, we can not test for it.  Because their is no test available.  We promise that we would not breed from any dog that we knew before breeding was in fact not well.

We will not sell knowingly a puppy that is ill.  All our puppies are sold in good faith that they are fit and well at the time of sale.   If we thought one of our puppies was not well, we would take it to our vet who has years of expertise and get him to check it over.  If we felt that the puppy should not be sold we would return your deposit, or you could buy one from our next litter.   We encourage you to get your puppy veterinary checked with in a week of leaving our home.

Temperament of parents

We only breed from parents who have excellent temperaments.  When you visit you will see the parents if we own both, and you can see with your own eyes the nature of our dogs.  Everyone who has come is always impressed with Silvestre Shotokan as he has the most fabulous nature.  We do not have to usher our dogs out of your way outside in fear of they may bite you, as our dogs are completely trustworthy.  Our dogs are also very good with other dogs.  They regular are trained along side other dogs be it at gundog or ring craft or obedience.  But best of all we meet with our friends on a weekly basis and can let our dogs free run all together.  This states in itself what good dogs we have.

What name?

We give all our puppies a pedigree name.  The first part of the pups name will be Silvestre as this is our affix.  Then we choose a theme for every litter and name the puppy.  You call the puppy by its pet name which is nothing to do with the pedigree name unless you wish to take part of the pedigree name of course.  Everyone loves the themes we do. For eg Silvestre Ruby Slippers was named out of our Wizard of Oz theme.  Silvestre Amidala came from our Star Wars theme.

When can my puppy leave?

Puppies are ready for their new homes from 7 weeks of age.  By 7 weeks of age they are confident characters and they are needing that one to one stimulation they get with their owner.  They are a sponge and learning fast.

We will only keep a puppy longer if we think in its development it needs to stay with us for longer.

If you want us to keep a puppy longer than 7 weeks because you have a holiday booked then we are now charging a set amount per day from 7 weeks.  This is to stop time wasters.  If you want us to look after your puppy for longer than 7 weeks we request full payment 2 weeks before you are due to leave.  Again this is only to stop time wasters.

We reserve the right to change our minds in selling you the puppy and to return your deposit. We do not change our minds for no reason what so ever.

We only let puppies go at 7 weeks if we think they are healthy.

If we return your deposit due to the ill health of a puppy we will then give you options where you can purchase a puppy from our next litter.  Or give you the details of other breeders we know to have  puppy.

Playing Outside

From the age of 6 to 7 weeks our puppies get the added benefit of playing in our gardens.  They learn to interact with each other, and older dogs.  They also play with mum.  They strengthen their leg muscles and become more agile. If they are left in a whelping box it does not stimulate their minds enough and they become bored, and cry all day.

We provide our puppies a wide range of toys from brought ones to home made toys.  Hungarian Vizsla pups love to climb up on boxes for example, and they love to be given a chicken wing every day or bones to suck, chew and eat.  Providing a wide range of textures from soft materials, to rubber toys to play with.

In hot weather we make an iced treat which they can lick.  During extreme hot weather we have a space blanket we can put over a puppy pen on our patio, and keep them in the shade with plenty of water provided.  In winter their puppy pen goes in the conservatory and they are lovely and warm as we have a log burner in there.

Dog Proofing your home.

When the puppy goes to your home you should do a spot of dog proofing before he comes home.  In the garden check to see if their are any places a small puppy could wriggle out.  As he gets older your fences need to be at least 6ft to keep him in the garden.  Make sure you do not have any ponds which have steep sides in which a small puppy could fall into, as an adult it will not matter as much because Weimaraners and Vizsla's are good swimmers.  A puppy at 7 weeks can swim very well, but they struggle if they can not get out.

Check out the two links to poison plants.

http://www.uexplore.com/health/poisonplants.htm

http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc

In winter time we open up our conservatory by taking out furniture and providing a huge puppy pen in here where it is warm with the log burner going and the puppies are safe so they can not touch it and burn themselves.

We play with our puppies too, giving them human contact with play as well as just play on their own.  Our children are particularly brilliant and play with the puppies as do their friends.

It is all about stimulating the puppies and wearing them out, and we do everything we can to give them plenty to think about.

Will I see the mother of the pups?

It goes with out saying that all our puppies mothers are here for you to see.  I know adverts will tell you to see the mother of the puppies with good reason.  As most puppy farms take pups away from the mothers and an early age and they are shipped away.  We are a family home and there fore the mums are here with us.

We do not let anyone come in and see our puppies before they are either 4 or 5 weeks old. We prefer 5 weeks as the puppies are so much stronger by then.

The mother of the puppies is with them right up to the day they leave to a degree.  Of course we have to wean the mother from the puppy and this can take a couple of weeks, gradually reducing the pups time with her so her milk dries up.  But once weaned she is allowed to go back in with her puppies and play with them, lay with them, groom them, and teach them skills that they require for later in life.

In our case you will get to meet the bigger family too. Father of the pups sometimes, grandmothers, and aunties.  Or even daughters from past mating. You can see the "Type" of dog that you will have.

Will I see the father?

We do not always have the father of the puppies here at our home as we may have used someone else dog.  The good news is that all the dogs we use are show dogs, and there fore you have the opportunity to go along to a championship show and meet the father and his owners.  If not a show dog, he will be a working dog.  But on occasions we use a dog which is a dual purpose dog in other words jack of all trades.  This keeps the Weimaraners spirit and hungarians with an intelligent mind.  We will provide you details of where the puppies father lives and contact details if you wish.  Sometimes we use our own dog and you can always meet him as he lives in the house with us.

Stanley tends to be the best advert for our puppies we could wish for because of his loveable nature.   He has such a wonderful temperament, and everyone with children has the safe knowledge that he is a million percent.

Worming

All our adult dogs and puppies are thoroughly treated for parasites.  We start your puppy on a worming programme which you can continue with once he leaves our home.  Puppies are wormed at 3 and 6 weeks with Panacur Paste.  We will send you home with a worming tablet for your puppy which will treat two times.

We do not worm our bitches during pregnancy.  We will worm her the day she comes into season then again as soon as the pups have left.

Vaccinations

We do not vaccinate our puppies because they leave our home before the time that vaccines are given. Vaccines are normally given between the age of 8 and 10 weeks.  It is not a good idea to take a puppy home and straight away get it vaccinated because the dog will be adjusting to your new home. Ideally a two week gap from taking the puppy home before vaccinations is more ideal as the puppy will of got used to its new surroundings better.  More vets now are recommending later vaccinations.  It has been proven in the cat community that kittens vaccinated after going home can have adverse reactions to the vaccines, there fore a settle period in the new home is paramount before vaccinating.  So this is why cat breeders vaccinate cats themselves and do not let kittens leave until 7 days to 2 weeks after second vaccines.  But because puppies need their owners as they need independence from their siblings, and go through a bonding period after 7 weeks it is more advisable to put them in homes with their new owners first.  Puppies are different to kittens but I do advise waiting after the puppy has settled before you get him vaccinated.

Flea Treatment

All dogs will come into contact with a flea at one time or another in its lifetime.  Fleas are more commonly seen in the summer time, although they can have fleas at any time of the year.  Many products are widely available to buy in shops, vets, or online pharmacies.

We recommend www.hyperdrug.co.uk  or www.vet-medic.com  to purchase all your dog wormers, flea treatments at much reduced veterinary rates.  The pet owner can today save money by using online pharmacies.

Because our puppies rarely have fleas we tend to not treat with any harsh chemicals.  As with all chemicals you can bring about skin allergies, dandruff, soreness, red, or hair loss.  Never over use chemicals on your dogs skin.  Front line can be used on puppies as young as 2 weeks of age, but we do not recommend this unless your dog has fleas.

We only flea treat our puppies if we see a flea.

Puppy Bathing

Before your puppy comes home to you it will of been given a professional groom.  He/she will smell just lovely.  He will have his nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and be in full health.

You have the benefit of my qualifications with Dog Grooming NVQ2 and NVQ3  as I can tell you everything you need to know from a professional point of view with regards to bathing, and skin treatments, diet, and transporting a puppy.  I took up dog grooming as a hobby because I enjoyed being with dogs and other breeds. It always fascinated me how at shows people would groom the poodle the Bishon to such perfection.  Now I have learned this I am very proud to do a great job on these dogs.

You do not need to over bath your puppy when its a baby, but puppies being puppies get into all sorts of mess and I think puppies are generally bathed a lot more than adult dogs.  Use always a quality puppy shampoo, such as fluffy puppy from dezynadog or go to Groomers online and use their products which are excellent.

Experience

Going to an experienced breeder is very helpful especially to someone who is starting out with their first dog.  The tips along the way we can share with you are valuable.  We have a lot of experience in rearing puppies, looking after dogs, training dogs, etc.
Age is not always experience.  It is what qualifications you have with animals, experience of construction of animals.  Giving you support any time, and also helping to re-home dogs we have bred and not relying on Weimaraner rescue to pick up the pieces of a bad owner.  Our chat group is fantastic for teaching new people about their puppy also.  Most people have had Weimaraners for years and some longer than I have that have dogs off me.

I want a puppy from you but cant travel to pick it up!

Not everyone can drive we appreciate this, and some people do not like to travel such long journeys for what ever reasons.

We have locally to us a company that you can employ to bring your puppy to you.

PET CARE AT HOME FROM ANIMALS AT HOME

www.norfolksw.animalsathome.co.uk

We have used this firm to take Darla from us to the airport.  I can say they were nothing but courteous, helpful and rang me the moment she got to heathrow and put our minds at rest as I was crying when she left the door.  I cant help it if I care!

You must pay Animals at home directly.

 Export

We are happy to export puppies to other countries however we want to know that our puppies are going to very good homes before hand.  We require photos of the home they are going to, and would like to chat at length to you before we say yes.  In some cases we will meet you first.

If you can not speak good English then please find a translator as we can only speak English.

We charge for the price of a puppy plus extra's.  We can send you a quote.

Veterinary fee's, health checks, export certificates, or import licences, faxing back and forth.  Parasite treatments, micro chips, and any documentations needed are charged for on top of the price of the puppy.  Plus board up to 12 weeks.

Puppies can leave the UK from 7 weeks if you are driving to our home and taking the puppy by Euro Tunnel over to Europe.  However we would prefer to keep the puppy up to at least 8 weeks before it travels.  This is your cheaper option as you will not have to pay all the documentation and veterinary work.

Puppies flying out of the UK should be at least 12 weeks of age and they must comply to the DEFRA regulations for each country. Unless going to Europe.

If your puppy requires rabies vaccine, the blood work can only be done when it is older.  There fore the puppy would not leave the UK until it is 5 to 6 months of age.

We do not sell puppies that we would have to keep for 5 to 6 months. Because we have such demand for our puppies in the UK alone and we like to know our pups are in good homes by then.

We can arrange for your puppy to be driven to the air port by a local company who specialize in taking pets to the air ports.  You can either arrange to meet the puppy there and fly back with your puppy.  Or we can put you in touch with a company who will make sure the puppy is taken out of the UK safely.

Their are laws, regulations which must be met in driving animals across the UK for sale, and flying out of the UK.

If you can not meet your puppy at the air port in the UK you can employ Animals at home to bring your puppy to the air port.  www.norfolksw.animalsathome.co.uk

Also ship your pet will assist your puppy's travels from heath row and get all documentation in place

www.shipyourpet.com and they will assist you in every small detail.

We have only exported one puppy ourselves to Bermuda, but we have dogs living all over the world taken by their owners at various ages.  Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Dubi, America and Sweden.

In the end day we have so many enquires from the UK alone we do not have to export puppies as keeping puppies up to 12 weeks takes a lot more commitment from us.  So there fore if we do say yes then you are lucky.

Breeding Endorsements are not put onto exported puppies with those owners wishing to breed from them.  However we make sure first you are active with in the Weimaraner community in your country first, and they are not going to puppy farms.

Waiting for a puppy

Sometimes you may have to wait what seems like a lifetime to get a puppy from us.    Sometimes our girls all come into season together and we may get two close litters.  We never know from year to year just our plans for the coming year, but if you are patient you will get a puppy from us.  It is not often we have a puppy available if you call, this is because we get a steady stream of enquirers who are happy to go on our waiting list.  It has happened where someone just rang up out of the blue and someone had just dropped from my waiting list.  They were lucky to get the puppy.

Please do not go onto our waiting list if you have already joined another breeders waiting list. Breeders all know each other and soon talk and they find out that odd people have gone onto tons of waiting lists.

If you suddenly need to drop from our waiting list, just send us an email to tell us.  If we do not reply, send us the email again or call us so that you get a response from us.  Just so long as we know what you are doing we are happy.

You must keep in regular contact with us

I tell everyone the same thing, call me again, keep in contact.  This is because I can forget who is who.  I has a lot to do with the amount of people that we speak to every week about having a puppy.  So keep in contact with us, remind us, email us....You will get your puppy then.

 I want a puppy now!

If we are not having any litters in the next 6 months and you wish to purchase a puppy from someone else, we can recommend other breeders.  Just let us know that you cant wait and we will see if we know someone we can recommend.

If anyone uses our stud dog we do endeavour to help pass on enquires to them too.

Choosing a puppy

We live with the puppies day and night and know their characteristics inside out.  Character of the puppy does not really show itself until the 6 week stage.  We will invite you to come and see your puppy when it is 4 or 5 weeks old.  The most outgoing at 5 weeks could be in fact the quietest at 7 weeks.  So you can not choose behaviour at this early stage.   We always choose our puppies for the family now, we did not used too, but by us doing this we have reduced the amount of puppies that have come back to us or gone through rescue.   Because we live with the puppies it is easier for us to determine their character.  You will only see the puppy for just over an hour when you come and visit us.   It would be easy to take the wrong puppy home.  You can not go on just cute looks, or one that is the most out going.  Usually the one that is most outgoing is better suited to a working home.   When you come and see us we will ask you to say which 2 dogs you like the most, and we do try then to place one of those pups with you.

If you have a complete dislike to one having white on its chest you must tell us.

Weimaraners can have small white marks on their chests, so can Hungarian Vizsla's.  This is acceptable in the breed standard and they can still be shown at championship and open shows.

Hungarian Vizsla's can also have white marks on their toes.  This usually vanishes after 12 months, but in some cases the white can remain.  "For pets this does not matter, but for show dogs I would advise having one with out white on their toes"

We are flexible about the date and time you can come and visit us when the pups are 4-5 weeks of age.  Sometimes we spread it over 2 weeks so it gives couples chances to come one evening, or during the week or weekends.

If you think this choosing policy is rather strange then have a read of our reference page so you can see just what other people have to say about it.

At 6 weeks we do this test on your dog to see just what its temperament will turn out to be like.

http://www.workingdogs.com/testing_volhard.htm

http://www.volhard.com/pages/canine-personality-profile.php

We place many photos of the puppies growing up at our Flicker group, you will see that around week 6 they will all wear collars.  You will be able to go back through the photos and have them as a keep sake if you copy them we do not mind.  You will be able to see which puppy was yours growing up.  Our Flicker group is updated every week with info what is going on, and also photos of our dogs.  We do not up date our main website very often due to the amount of time it takes.

Please note that about one month after the puppies have left we do remove the photos at Flicker site.  So do copy what you want whilst it is on the site.

Docking and Dew Claw removal

Our puppies will not be docked due to the law which changed in April 2007.  This law prevented us from docking dogs.   Only people that work their breeding dogs can have puppies with a docked tail.

All our puppies will have their dew claws removed between 2 days and 5 days of age.

We can recommend breeders who dock tails still in the UK legally.  Contact me by email if you are looking for a docked puppy.

Following the Five Freedoms.

We follow the five freedoms in dog care at home

1. Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.

2. Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

3. Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.

4. Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour - by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.

5. Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

The five freedoms were set out by the animal council for all animals, and should be adhered too for the welfare of animals.

Training

This is of high importance to us as breeders, that anyone who takes a dog from us continues with basic training.  Because we know if you do the dog will be a happy dog, and if you do not the dog may end up in rescue because you did not put in the training.

We believe in motivational methods of training, reward training.  If a dog is consistently rewarded for correct responses it will be motivated to please you, and if a dog pleased you he learns quickly.

The key period is to get your puppy into training by 16 weeks of age.  It is a good idea to get vaccines done first before going to your first puppy class.  Take your puppy for a good walk first before going into your first class so it is worn out and will settle easier.  If you do not do this your puppy will be full of energy and believe me it will show you up.

We highly advise you do the Kennel club bronze, hopefully silver, and amazingly gold awards with your dogs.  This can be taught at training class's with instructions for this.  Your dog will benefit from being well behaved and the owner will be proud and also be happy in the knowledge that they taught their dog good sensible training.

All Weimaraners should be socialized to other animals including sheep by they age of 6 months.

The countryside is a great place to exercise dogs, but it’s every owner’s duty to make sure their dog is not a danger or nuisance to farm animals, wildlife or other people.

  • By law, you must control your dog so that it does not disturb or scare farm animals or wildlife. On most areas of open country and common land, known as 'access land' you must keep your dog on a short lead on most areas of open country and common land between 1 March and 31 July, and all year round near farm animals.
  • You do not have to put your dog on a lead on public paths, as long as it is under close control. But as a general rule, keep your dog on a lead if you cannot rely on its obedience. By law, farmers are entitled to destroy a dog that injures or worries their animals.
  • If a farm animal chases you and your dog, it is safer to let your dog off the lead – don’t risk getting hurt by trying to protect it.
  • Take particular care that your dog doesn’t scare sheep and lambs or wander where it might disturb birds that nest on the ground and other wildlife – eggs and young will soon die without protection from their parents.
  • Everyone knows how unpleasant dog mess is and it can cause infections – so always clean up after your dog and get rid of the mess responsibly. Also make sure your dog is wormed regularly to protect it, other animals and people.
  • At certain times, dogs may not be allowed on some areas of access land or may need to be kept on a lead. Please follow any signs. You can also find out more by phoning the Open Access Contact Centre on 0845 100 3298.

Re-Home

It is always a breeders worst thought that the loved puppy we placed in a home for some reason can not stay in that home.  We offer help to anyone that has a dog from us and they can no longer look after it.

Money and Deposits

We take a deposit when you reserve a puppy once it is born.  This is a non-refundable deposit which will only be returned if the puppy is sick or we do not feel it should leave our premises.  Full payment for puppy must be made when you pick up your puppy in cash only.  We do reserve the right to return a deposit to anyone that we have reservations over. For more details ask us please.....

Full amount of pups is never written on the website and during 2010 we are thinking of raising the cost of our puppies to meet the high costs of food, showing expenses which have now gone up etc.

I am sure to add something more to this page in time.  Especially photos, but to get this online quickly I have added it to the site now.  If I can be of any help or I have not answered something, then please do get in touch.
