Uk breeders of Weimaraner and Hungarian Vizsla
Home Reared puppies
Yes our puppies are home reared, this means they get used to sounds in the home such as the TV, and peoples voices. They are used to being handled directly by us and we encourage friends in to handle puppies. Right from birth I handle the puppies, they are used to human touch, and used to being picked up.
Also we introduce a large variety of toys and
chews. Soft toys, to hard rubber, to empty bottles to play
with. Our puppies start off their life either up stairs in our spare room or in the kitchen. We soon move them into a quieter area. By the time they are 4 weeks they need to hear noises so we move our dogs into the conservatory in a big puppy pen. We place plastic sheet down and on top of this newspaper one end and a bedding the other. By 6 weeks we do put puppy's daytimes outside if the weather is suitable. They come back to the house late afternoon. This is because we cant give them enough room with out having our house trashed. So if they have a big area outside they can run, play and poop and its all contained. Evenings is when we take puppies out one by one and fuss them, cuddle them, and let them play individually or as a group. It is controlled play as we cant let puppies run riot over the house as they may chew up electrical cables. We have always been told how wonderfully socialized our puppies are. They are NOT nervous dogs, and our experience with puppies is what counts. We can play a firework CD which is a great help to those puppies growing up to learn what loud bangs are all about. By the end of the week playing this they are all asleep. Please note do not waste our time if you are on other breeders waiting lists or have been seeing other breeders. We will remove you instantly if we find this out, and some how we always do because we know all the good breeders. You either want a puppy off us or you do not. Quite simples! Waiting lists and how it works. It is almost impossible as a breeder to know who is going to be one hundred percent wanting a puppy when the puppies are born, due to many time wasters. Because of this we have adopted a new policy. We feel that although it seems that we have to treat all the decent folk with the same view as the time wasters, we do try to talk to you at length to find out just who is who. If I explained to you that out of every 10 decent folk that apply we also get 40 time wasters. All saying how much they want a puppy. If you are under the age of 18 please do not contact me for a puppy. I will NOT sell a Weimaraner or Hungarian Vizsla to you. You must get your parents to call us. We will take your details down, your address, mobile and landline number. So we have future reference how to get hold of you. Once the puppies are born we will make an announcement on our website saying NEWSFLASH telling you the day and time to contact us. It will be between 10am and 1pm. All those of you that were told you are in the waiting list must call then. If we hear nothing by 1pm we will take newer enquires who have been told they are further down our waiting list. It is first come first served. Unless you have no internet and we will then call you by telephone. If you are on other breeders waiting lists, please do not ask to go on ours. This is only fair to them and us. We have no objections you going around looking at puppies etc, and different breeders, but do not ask to go onto our waiting list if you are already asked to go on someone else. We had this year one such lady go around other breeders who upset them and us. It is unfortunate that such people do this. Lastly if you want to come and view my dogs, please do get in touch. I do not let anyone come with out an appointment, and do not think you can call me out of the blue asking to see my animals that day or with in a couple of days. We see people but sometimes months ahead. Also we will of talked to you a lot first before we make an appointment for you to come in. You can not just call me and expect an appointment with out any information about you, where you live etc. Older dogs available We rarely have older dogs available. We will announce on our puppy page if we do get any available.
Dew Claws and Docking
Our puppies have their dew claws removed at 48
hours old.
Diet
We feed our puppies the natural diet, some call it the BARF diet. We in-fact make our own diet up according to how we feel each day. The main ingredient your puppy will have every day is chicken, minced up. We may vary this with chicken and tripe, or chicken tripe and veg. Occasionally we mash up rice and put in. Occasionally we give a feed of beef and veg. But we prefer to stick with chicken based diets. We do give by 6 weeks smashed chicken wings or carcass for them to entertain themselves all afternoon. Because we understand that this diet can actually worry some dog owners we show you how easy it is. We send you home with Natural instinct food vouchers which you must redeem before your puppy goes to your home so that their is food ready and waiting. Its simple and clean, and does not smell. It comes in handy small ice cream type tubs. Simply defrost pull off lid, and get a tablespoon dip in and scoop it out, two scoops per meal. This meat includes bone so you do not have to worry about bone content. It also includes butternut squash, kelp, salmon oil, carrot to name a few. Its a complete diet for natural feeding. So you do not have to worry what food to feed your dog, its their in the tub. In fact everyone says oh wow, I thought I had to handle meat, I never knew it was so easy! Benefits of feeding natural diet are huge. To read more click HERE Bedding
Bedding can be really as little or as much as you can afford, however please note that Weimaraner puppies in particular are destructive with duvet beddings and will shred and eat the contents. There fore we recommend PRO FLEECE. Click HERE But their is nothing nicer than to have a nice pretty duvet basket as pictured as they love it. But I would not trust a puppy with one to be left on its own. Even pro fleece is not Weimaraner proof, their is no bedding that is. But we find this a warm fleece, which is easy to wash and easy to dry.
Vaccines Most veterinary surgeons will vaccinate puppies around 8 weeks old. We know that their is a fine line of getting the puppy out to training class's but yet not vaccinating too early. We prefer to vaccinate our own puppies at 9 to 10 weeks. Making sure they are in training class's before 16 weeks of age. This is all down to your personal choice. But know that if you vaccinate early your puppy may be poorly because puppies are adjusting to your new home and unsettled, and to vaccinate straight away seems un logical. Waiting for a couple of weeks gives your puppy time to adjust to your new home. By this advise we can honestly say that less puppies have seemed lethargic after vaccines. Vaccine costs vary between veterinary surgeons, but for eg. Companion care vets charge £50 which includes free wormer and flea treatments. Shop around for price if you are quoted a ridiculous charge. Wormers Every puppy in theory should be born with worms. As worms are passed on through mothers milk and placentas and being a dormant worm only comes into existence during the birth process. This is why we worm our puppies around 3 weeks old and again 6 weeks old. We then send you home with a tablet which lasts you a month. By us doing this we know we have eradicated worms from your puppy. Now you need to worm your puppy every month up to 6 months. Then every 3 months for the rest of its life. You can purchase wormers online so much cheaper than what your veterinary surgeon will sell it. Try www.hyperdrug.co.uk or www.vetmedic.co.uk
Flea Treatments & Ticks We have not seen a flea on one of our puppies for years. We treat our adults with front line or advocate and if we saw a flea on a puppy we would have to treat them. But we also know that as with all young animals the least chemicals you put onto their fur or into their mouth the better. So we advise only giving flea treatments if your dog has a flea, and wait until he is older if your dog does not have fleas. Advocate does not kill ticks however. You can purchase flea treatments such as front line online at hyper drug linked above.
Ear cleaner for waxy ears ![]() All puppies start to get waxy ears from 7 weeks of age and this does not mean it has ear mites. It is often the immune system adjusting, and vaccines etc. Just clean your puppy's ears out regular with ear cleaner. You can again purchase this online from hyper drug. If your puppy is scratching its ear, holding its ear to one side, its hot and weeping then your puppy should see a veterinary surgeon for treatment. You simply get some cotton wool and place cleaner onto cotton wool and insert into ear and clean it. Do not use cotton buds, or push wax down further into ear. Do it carefully. House crate or House cage We have a page devoted to this. Click HERE.
Lead training When your puppy goes home to you at 7 weeks you wont be able to take him out straight away. It is a good idea for him to get used to a collar for a few days but then when you go into the garden put on a soft nylon lead attached to the collar and walk your puppy around. Keep the puppy on your left hand side, and give a treat every now and then and tell the puppy he is a good boy. This is something that needs to be done a few times a week. So that by the time he is 15 weeks and ready to go for walks he is already used to the lead. If you do not put a lead on your puppy by then he will jump around like a gazelle and scream blue murder! Because he is small also if he pulls you can pull him back and he wont like it and will learn to walk beside you. A dog that pulls is often one that has not been told off early enough. We choose your puppy
Silvestre Whoz Ya Daddy pictured Many cant understand why we do this, and others totally get it! We live with these puppies 24 hours a day and we know who is naughty, and who requires a home which will give it a lot to think about. Such as a working home or a couple who have a lot of energy. We know who is lazy and is more interested in laying being lazy. He is much better in a family home. We know which dog has the potential to show/work. With correct training and advice this dog will go far in the jobs you want it to do. Coming to visit me for an hour will not show you the dogs true character. By me choosing a puppy for you has stopped puppies going into rescue because owners cant cope with the dog. The one thing to tell me is what you want from your puppy.
Sometimes a Weimaraner will have a white patch
on its chest and sometimes it wont have any. You must tell us
before hand if you have a preference wanting the white or not. For pet dogs I do not see white as any problem what so ever and in identifying cases its perfect if their is white. Sometimes Hungarian Vizsla can have white flecks in the toes or indeed white toes when born. Again tell me if you do not wish for white on the toes of your puppy. If all have white Im sorry then you will miss out from having a puppy this time. The same identical mating another time can produce no white what so ever. We have seen dogs with white put together producing no white, and vice a versa. So their is no breeding white in my experience. Do not take a puppy thinking you want to show it, and just wont tell me because you think we will up the charges. We sell show dogs the same prices as pet dogs. Because all our dogs are of a good quality. If you tell us what you want from your puppy we are much better able to put a puppy in your home with potential. Also you may want advice later with that puppy. Every litter we produce we have first option on puppies if we want one or not.
Puppies leave at 7 weeks
All breeds of dog are different in development, some require much longer time with the parents than others. The HPR breed develop quickly and not only grow quickly by 7 weeks but also need one on one attention and if it is not given is very detrimental to them. Weimaraners in particular grow very quickly. The mothers get sick of them and will bite them. This is normal behaviour, (Would you want a piranha on your nipples hanging swinging because its stopped suckling now and just wants to bite as its used to eating food. No is the answer.! LOL.) Also because they need one on one needs, they want to bond with breeder over new owner. Another reason is puppies start to develop into the character they will become in adults. Now if left in a large litter of puppies you will get one that is a bully and will go around beating up the others, and you will get the others who were bullied cowering and showing a nervous nature where other dogs are concerned. This is natural play in dogs, but it can be detrimental to them later in life if that stage is allowed to develop as it can be carried on into adulthood. Take them away from each other and for a start the pup has nothing to think about except itself and its new owner and its new world. It starts to learn house training, it starts to learn play behaviour and training and what is required of it. We personally feel its detrimental to a dog to leave it longer just because you want to go on holiday. Now saying all that and you understand this we give a day for the puppies to leave. It will be a Friday morning or Saturday morning. Between 8am to 12 noon. By the Saturday lunch time all pups must be left. If one is left on its own it cries constantly and is stressed because its lost all its play mates out of the nest and cant understand what is going on. Mother is no comfort because she wont want him. If someone comes along and wants us to keep a puppy because they are going on holiday we do tell them the above. Even then they still want a puppy, we tell you that because it will take more of our time in training and looking after the puppy we charge £10 per day to look after the single puppy. When you wonder why we do this, you must understand we give up our day job to look after your puppy. £10 is nothing per day is it! If vaccines are required then this is all added to your bill at the end. Plus travel to and from the vets, and any veterinary care. Puppies being exported and being kept longer we really put our lives on hold until they are gone. The one on one care, the training we put in. It is all accounted for in the price. Kennel club assured breeders We joined the Kennel club accredited breeder scheme a few years ago now, and its now changed its name to the Kennel club assured breeder scheme. This scheme promotes the welfare and health tests of the different breeds. Also not breeding a bitch before the age of 2 years. You can purchase a kennel club registered puppy from breeders which are not in the assured breeder scheme and they do not have to health test the parents. If they are from the assured breeder scheme they have to health test the parents for the required test which in our breeds is just Hip Scoring only. We always advise going to see your breeder so that you know where your puppy is coming from. Here are some points if you are looking at breeders which we personally feel makes the difference between a good or bad breeder. Click HERE Breed club members We are members of The Northern Weimaraner club. Rachel is also a member of the British Short hair club. References
Click HERE to read through some references that people have written back to us. I would like to thank those of you that took time to send us an email/letter/text or face book message or posting. Of course anyone can say their puppy owners have said this or that. But here is proof written direct from them not us. We have photo galleries also of our walks/Silvestre outings where its nice to see all the dogs. Insurance It is very important to insure your puppy before you get him home. Although we give you 4 weeks free insurance you must activate insurance so that you are fully covered. It costs a lot to bring a pedigree or cross breed dog into the home now a days and with every breed of dog you will experience at some point in its life vet bills. Vet bills today run into thousands not just hundreds. Insurance will give you peace of mind that your dog is covered. With large dogs you should go for the highest cover possible as any injury can amount to thousands. I know it seems like a lot of money to pay out each year but you must account this into your finance before you buy a dog. I do know people that do not insure their dogs but put away each month a figure which they can afford for the day they may need to use it. We recommend PET PLAN insurance company. Kennel club endorsements We place on your kennel club certificate a breeding endorsement. This endorsement means you can not register the progeny of your dog with the kennel club. You are asked to sign a contract to state you are fully aware this is in place. We will lift the endorsement under certain circumstances which are set out in our contract. But I add we do sell dogs as pets, there fore do not sell dogs for breeding, and the chances of us lifting endorsement are slim if you do not follow the guidelines we set out in our contract for us possibly lifting endorsement. A member of a breed club. Bitch endorsement will not be lifted until 2 years. You must actively show your dog and qualify it for Crufts dog show. Must be hip scored or any relevant health test required by the Assured breeder scheme or breed club. If you do not show but you work your dog and take it to field trials and its been placed well, again we may lift this endorsement. Will not breed more than 3 litters from the dog in its lifetime. Will go to the stud dog of our choice on its first litter. Will always allow us to buy back a puppy in the future if we wish to. Our utmost concern is welfare of dogs. If we felt that you were not going to give the puppies adequate welfare or love then Im sorry we will not lift the endorsement. For all pet dogs we do not lift endorsements. Find another breeder who will. We do not place an export pedigree endorsement on our puppies as if someone wishes to go abroad and show/work or breed we are happy for them to do this. As export pedigree means that the dog can be bred or shown abroad. Export puppies We will only sell a puppy for export to a show home or working home abroad. Sorry but their are breeders of dogs in your own country and to save the dog air travel it is better to buy in your own country. Please contact me and I will give you a list of affix of breeders who you can locate in your country. Remember to put into google (Search engine) Weimaraner club or Hungarian Vizsla club for your country and it will come up. Contact them for a puppy list or ask for advice, they will be helpful. For those breeders wishing to bring in a new line into the country then we are happy to help you with a puppy. It is important for us all to take new dogs into different countries. The easiest way is Euro tunnel and drive and costs will be less. This is not always possible though. Also you would need to account for a hire vehicle to get to our doorstep. UK taxi does not allow dogs in them. UK bus's and trains do not accept puppies in them either. So its private travel or hiring a company to take puppy to the airport. Or in fact pay us our time to do so. Heathrow require your puppy to be at least 10 weeks old and you have to purchase an air travel container/travel boxes. We leave all this for you to do. Their is also paper work required to be done, this is why it is better if Ryslip do this or ship your pet another company does it. Your puppy will need vaccines for some countries. Some require none. Health certificates are required by some 48 hours before leaving the UK. Which must be faxed over. Flea treatment and worming is often required. Pets passport is only required if coming back into the UK. Normal vaccines plus rabies are required by some countries. We require you to come to our home to pick up the puppy if at all possible and take it with you. You then deal with all the puppies needs before going onto the aeroplane and after. If however you can not come here you can use shipping companies such as Ryslip http://www.ryslip.com/ or www.shipyourpet.com You must pay export companies direct. We usually take payment for puppy at the time of reserving it in full. Extras are worked out what is required including extra board, travel to and from vets, health certificates etc, we will give you a quote and you must pay us direct for this. For the actual export you must pay direct the shipping company. We give you details of our account and give you a code which is for the UK banking system. Then you can pay directly into the account. If we have to keep a puppy up to 6 months before it can leave then I am sorry we are not in the position to do this. Micro chips Your puppy will be micro chipped at 6 weeks. This is a free service offered to you by us the breeder, so we know it is identifiable by a micro chip in the neck. To read this micro chip it can be read by a scanner which normally vets have, dog wardens, R.S.P.C.A, some police stations have them but not all. This small grain of rice of a micro chip is placed under the skin between the withers. Its highly advisable not to stroke this chip out of place for two weeks after administered. Micro chips can migrate for no reason what so ever. They rely on scar tissue to hold them in place. We can not be held accountable for a moved micro chip as it can be outside influences or lack of scar tissue as to why it has moved. We do not reduce the price of the puppy if you do not wish your puppy to be micro chipped as this is a free service offered to you. We simply do not do it if we are asked. We must be told either way if you do or do not want the micro chip by the time the puppy is 5 weeks and micro chips have been purchased. Puppy Visits
The most exciting time and it feels like you have been waiting for ever is the puppy visit we do around 5 weeks. Depending on litter birth we sometimes have to do the visit a week earlier at 4 weeks. No one is allowed to come in before 4 weeks.
We know this is an exciting time for you and we
try to make this as pleasant as possible. If you have an older dog Im sorry but it cant come in our house and it cant mix with our dogs. This is to stop infections or bacteria or viral infections being brought into our house, or skin conditions which can be passed onto dogs. Also our dogs wont love your dog and you are bringing in a strange dog into a pack and there fore not sensible. So leave your dog at home. If you want to bring your dog our front garden is fenced off and you are welcome to walk your dog around the front garden and back to the car again. At this stage we hand you your food voucher to be redeemed by Natural instinct. You can click HERE to download our diet sheet. If it does not download we will send it to you if you are having a puppy from us. Cats Yes our puppies are cat friendly!
Rachel breeds British short hair pedigree cats. Blue and Colour points. It goes with out saying our dogs and puppies are cat friendly. They are used to tiny babies to kittens of 13 weeks running around. Also used to adult cats who are I have to say the boss of the dogs. Our love for all animals is constant.
